8th decade: 1994 to 2003 – Globalization
In 1996 Koelnmesse reacted to the globalization of markets by transforming its International Service Center (ISC) into an independent company. This move was followed in 2002 by the establishment of Koelnmesse International GmbH, Koelnmesse Service GmbH, and Koelnmesse Ausstellungen GmbH in Cologne, as well as five foreign subsidiaries on three continents. Nonetheless, Koelnmesse has remained firmly established in the region. In 1999 it cooperated with the University of Cologne to establish the Institute of Trade Fair Management and Distribution Research in order to train students for the trade fair business.
