NRW Secretary of Commerce Christa Thoben to act as patron of leading energy technology fair outside the United States
It’s a major coup for Koelnmesse Ausstellungen GmbH: in 2009 and 2012, U.S.-based PennWell Corporation — the world’s leading organizer of trade fairs for energy production, energy distribution, and power plant technology — will once again present Power-Gen Europe in Cologne. The event is the largest trade fair outside the U.S. for the power plant and power supply industry.
Christa Thoben, Secretary of Commerce for North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), will be the fair’s patron, and the NRW-based energy corporations RWE and EON have also lent strong support to the choice of Cologne as a venue for Power-Gen Europe. “Back in 2006, when the fair was first held here, the industry was very satisfied with the event, the site, and the service in Cologne. Thanks to this great performance and the support of politics and business, we’ve prevailed against competing trade fair locations in Germany,” says Jan Pothof, Managing Director of Koelnmesse Ausstellungen GmbH. Glen Ensor, European Director of PennWell Corp., also confirms: “Cologne is a real hot spot for good business!”
Trade visitors from all over the world will be coming to Cologne for the 2009 and 2012 editions of Power-Gen Europe, which will be substantially enlarged to encompass the topics of “Power Grid” (i.e. the transmission and distribution of electricity) and “Renewable Energy.” The 2006 event, which occupied 20,000 square meters of gross exhibition space in Hall 6 of the new exhibition center, attracted about 400 exhibitors and more than 8,300 visitors. In 2009 and 2012, it will occupy the likewise newly built Halls 7 and 8, which provide 32,000 square meters of gross exhibition space. The event, which will be accompanied by a congress with high-quality delegates in Koelnmesse’s Congress Center North, has a very international character, with 60 percent of its participants coming from outside of Germany. Held by turns in Milan, Madrid, and Cologne, Power-Gen Europe will next return to Germany in 2009 (May 26 to 28) and in 2012 (May 22 to 24).
Koelnmesse Ausstellungen GmbH is a 100 percent subsidiary of Koelnmesse GmbH. It markets excess hall capacity at the Cologne exhibition center to trade fair organizers from Germany and abroad, trade and professional associations, and purchasing cooperatives, for the purpose of staging guest events. The company also organizes its own public events and has so far staged more than 25 trade fairs and exhibitions this year.
