Sustainability at Cologne trade fairs

Today, sustainable business practices apply to all sectors. Responsibility towards the environment and society is therefore a central topic of many events in Cologne. We take responsibility in a way that fits our sectorss.
In addition to this, Koelnmesse offers its exhibitors and visitors attractive platforms on the subject of sustainability with seminars, lectures, discussions, special shows and congresses.
Integration of recurring projects demonstrates how Koelnmesse is implementing sustainability in the further development of its trade fairs. Here is a small selection:
Environment: DMEXCO Forest for CO2 compensation
As the leading trade fair for digital marketing, DMEXCO has been committed to a forestry project in Kenya since 2019 in the form of DMEXCO Forest. Together with the social business Treedom as well as Productsup and DMEXCO's Chief Advisor Dr. Dominik Matyka as sponsors, DMEXCO has planted 2,400 trees in the region around Thika and Muranga, which will store around 1 million kilogram of CO2 by 2029.
The tree-planting project contributes to poverty reduction and economic growth in the region. The fight for gender equality is another focus in Thika and Muranga. A large proportion of the participants are women, who are planting trees for the first time themselves or who are running tree nurseries. In workshops and training sessions, they learn the necessary know-how for planting and caring for the trees. This video provides a bit of insight into the project.
Society: Gamescom partners with a child protection organisation
In order to fully guarantee the protection of minors online, gamescom and Koelnmesse GmbH have become a member of Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK), the organisation responsible for video game ratings in Germany, to jointly guarantee the protection of minors online on gamescom's own channels. Through the partnership with USK, focus can be placed on gaming fun and the enjoyment of gaming culture. For children, the installation of parental control solutions such as JusProg on the respective devices is recommended.

Koelnmesse GmbH is member of the German Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body (USK)
