On a careful hotel mission

Yvonne Asbeck, Group Leader for Hotel Travel Services at Koelnmesse, has an eye for detail: She regularly visits hotels in Cologne and the surrounding area − and takes a close look at everything. She visits areas open to the public, individual rooms and checks whether the hotel meets Koelnmesse's standards for partner hotels. Sufficient overnight accommodation, a high level of service quality and good Wi-Fi are just some of the requirements. "Of course, the connection to the trade fair grounds is also particularly important to us. That's why I check the public transport connections and the access to the highway," says Asbeck. Only when all services meet Koelnmesse's expectations does Asbeck offer the hotel a long-term partnership. "Hotels are generally very open to this," says Asbeck. "Because we fill empty rooms and ensure a constant flow of new customers." This is also due to the fact that exhibitors and visitors can book Koelnmesse partner hotels directly on the event websites. "This way, we can always see the daily availability of the room contingents that have been provided," explains Asbeck. But the cooperation is not only advantageous for the hotels − exhibitors and visitors also benefit: During the events and trade fairs, the hotels secure certain contingents for them and they enjoy certain price advantages. "Regardless of whether you are traveling as an individual or as part of a group, we are here to help and advise our guests throughout the entire booking process," explains Asbeck. Specifically, this means that Koelnmesse not only provides individual advice, but also takes care of booking the rooms. In addition, Asbeck and her five-person team take care of the arrangements with the hotel, the lists of names required and the invoicing between the hotel and the customer.

In contrast to other trade fair companies, with this team, Koelnmesse has its own special group that ensures that exhibitors and visitors can enjoy a pleasant stay in Cologne on top of the trade fair experience itself. This is exactly what makes the work of the Hotel Travel Services team so special: It works tirelessly on its service and offers. "We currently have cooperation agreements with 200 hotels in Cologne and the surrounding area," says Asbeck. This sounds like a lot, but is no longer enough due to the constantly growing number of events. As a result, Asbeck has been traveling more and more in the Cologne area for some time now in order to form new cooperations. "At the moment we are mainly looking around the Düsseldorf hotel market. Because the hotels there are well connected to Cologne by public transport and the highway".
