Lea Daschke began her training at Koelnmesse in August 2017. The 19-year-old gained her first professional experience as a temporary retail sales assistant during her school years.

With which areas of Koelnmesse have you already become familiar?

I have already been in trade fair management for the veganfach food fair and in the Stand Construction Services, Procurement and Internal Services departments. At the moment I am working in the area of events, which is responsible for the program at the fairs. There I support the event manager with the organization and management of special areas and events, e.g. speakers' corners, forums, award ceremonies and shows. My tasks include contacting external speakers and presenters, managing the event content in the database and the communication in the Visitor Guide, in the catalogue and on the columns in the exhibition halls. I also create the flow charts and discuss the design of the special areas with Event Design. I think it's great that I can take on my own small project. That way I get to know what has to be taken into account when organizing an event and what it is like to take responsibility. At the trade fair itself, I supervise the event program and keep an eye on everything. There are always unforeseen events to which you have to react spontaneously. That can be very challenging.

Why did you decide on a traineeship at Koelnmesse?

When I applied, I found it particularly exciting that so many different people from different cultural backgrounds come together at the trade fair. That's what makes the job so interesting and special.

What should applicants be able to offer?

Here at Koelnmesse, it is important to work independently and to be open to new colleagues and departments. Applicants should also want to learn something here and be prepared to invest time and energy in doing so.

What opportunities does the traineeship at Koelnmesse offer you?

As a trainee, Koelnmesse offers me the opportunity to gain an insight into various areas and gives me a look behind the scenes. In the course of my training, I'm gaining knowledge in a wide variety of specialist areas, which will benefit me in the future.
