Our goal consists of reducing the CO2 emissions of our business activities as well as in the areas of logistics and mobility. In line with the City of Cologne's targets, we want to minimise our emissions as much as possible by 2023 via efficient energy management and switching to renewable energy sources.

Events

Together we are making our events more sustainable.

At our events, we provide sectors with a platform for the issue of sustainability and promote knowledge-sharing. When selecting our service providers, we pay attention to a high standard of sustainability. When it comes to services like stand construction and catering, the use of sustainable materials and products is important to us. We protect resources and focus on the circular economy, recycling and waste prevention.

Community

Together we promote social and community involvement.

We form a partnership for a socially and ecologically responsible society together with our employees, partners and other interest groups. We take an active role in cross-sector initiatives and support our employees with regard to health and training.

Sustainable by design: Our event sustainable management is ISO certified

With its independent certification according to ISO standard 20121:2024, TÜV Rheinland confirms that sustainability criteria and corresponding responsibilities are embedded in all of Koelnmesse’s corporate processes. A comprehensive manual documents our processes and objectives. Sustainable practices are thereby further consolidated, and progress can be documented more effectively. Mandatory training and regular audits ensure long-term impact.

Net Zero Carbon Pledge

Koelnmesse was one of the first major international trade fair companies to sign the Net Zero Carbon Pledge in November 2021. All signatory companies and organisations are committed to the goal of reducing CO2 emissions in the event sector to net zero.

"right and fair" sustainability code

Our subsidiary Koelncongress GmbH has been a member and supporter of the "right and fair" sustainability code since 2012. As such, our colleagues are also committed to their corporate responsibility for sustainability when organising and holding congresses and events - in all relevant economic, ecological and social aspects.

AUMA sustainability initiative

As a member of the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA), we actively worked together on the goals and measures of the industry's strategy paper and signed the joint industry statement in August 2022. The German trade fair industry as a whole is committed to continuously reducing CO2 emissions until reaching full climate neutrality by 2040.
